I bought an xbox one other day abd my internet is a bit slow so cant do the game updates real easy. If i update at night can igo offline and play or is it prevent it from being played with update started? Some people at gamestop told me i cabt on call of duty cause almost strictly online but what about halo 5?

Also i heard the latest update is bad for the xbox. I havent updated it yet. Is it worth updating or no? I rather not have aby problems

The latest update has been great for me. Speed improvements in the UI and a few new cool features (clubs and looking for group). I've had zero issues with it.

Enable instant on and keep my console/apps up to date in the Power mode & startup settings, then let it work while you sleep. You can set the Xbox to turn off after an hour of inactivity, and it will still download the updates before it powers off.

You can also do an offline update but you will need a windows pc and a flash drive. See more here: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/system-updates-solution

what about halo for example? when i start updating it can i play it offline if i pause download and select play offline option or will it not let me until it completes the halo update?
call of duty black ops 3 gives me error if i try to play it while it is partially updated (have download paused and offline selected)

You should be able to play while it downloads. You just need a certain amount downloaded for certain features of the game. You can play online and have it download as well you don't have to pause it. The campaign may need a bit of the game downloaded before you can start but it should let you know when you can start the game and just start it and see what it lets you do.
