The story daily, I completed it but I did not get anything from it, I don't have the xpac yet so I'm am guessing that's the reason, if so why would it even let me do the mission in the first place

If you done it before you dont get a 2nd reward.
So maybe you did it without knowing

Only if it is a dlc mission but you can't select the mission.
