If you are unaware, Microsoft has this rule that you are not allowed to release a game on Xbox if it has already been released on any other console.

Just learned of this today. Seems so weird to me. Why have such a rule that actually pushes developers away?

So that they aren't wasting time with companies that aren't willing to release on both consoles simultaneously. Mostly it only affects indie devs that are in bed with Sony. Not really a big deal.

Well that's retarded because I like both consoles but it's no secret that the PS subforum is more active. I would love to own both consoles if I could afford them both.

This is definitely targeted toward indie devs because AAA studios can afford a multiconsole release. But what about the indie dev who sees success after the release of there game on PC? They would be willing to release across all platforms but physically don't have the man power or assets.
Like Gone Home or Thomas Was Alone for instance. Xbox will never see these games simply because of this rule. How does the benefit the Xbox marketplace?

They can take more time to develop for both if they want. They are just so itching to get it out on PS when they could have released on PC first if they really wanted to. Xbox isn't going to lie in bed with devs that prefer PS. I don't blame them. At least it keeps some of the garbage of Xbox. Indie games are not big moneymakers for Sony or MS excluding Minecraft. And as you saw there, MS took the time to court with Notch on it because it was worth their time.

Or if you want to reword it then all it means is that Microsoft wants games to be released at the same time or before the launch on a rival platform otherwise they wont authorize it.

Sure it's stupid, but all it means is we are going to get more exclusives than before and the same amount of good indie games.

I agree with the first part but not the second. Using the same examples as before, Gone Home or Thomas Was Alone, they are good indie games but now Xbox will never see them. I agree with Timmy that it is against those who prefer PlayStation but from the outside looking in it seems more harmful then beneficial.

It would make more sense in my opinion if it was paired with some benefit.

The benefit is that we will be seeing more games because of it. It in a way encourages developers to release the game on Xbox first or at the same time as PlayStation so they don't risk loosing a large sum of possible sales. In the end it's a stupid rule, but it does make sense to me.

I guess when you put it that way. Release the game first or at the same time or don't at all. It's an ultimatum and that's stupid.
