portal is a single player only game. its a strategy game and its fun as hell

tf2 is a multi-player only game. its a role-based fps. you pick your class and each class has their own advantages and disadvantages.

Scout - runs faster, can double jump, and they capture control points(kind of like territorys in halo 3)
Soldier - pretty basic class. you get a rocket launcher and you blow shit up
Pyro - has a flamethrower which can set people on fire to hurt them slowly. also has a shotgun. pyros cannot catch on fire by other pyros
Demo man - has 2 types of grenade launchers. one that shoots sticky grenades which are just grenades you can shoot at the ground and blow them up whenever
                  you want, and the other is one that if you shoot it at the ground itll blow up after a few sec and blows up instantly if it hits a target.
Heavy - a tank with a big ol gun. moves very slow
Engineer - builder. can make a sentry gun that kills people quickly and can be upgraded, a dispenser which gives health and metal(metal is used to build/upgrade
                things) and teleporters to get people to the enemy base faster
Medic - healer, and is the 2nd fastest character in the game. very capable of killing but it is a bit harder to aim
Sniper - if you cant figure out what a sniper does theres something wrong with you.
Spy - the most unique class in the game. his knife kills people in 1 hit if you hit them in the back with it. he can become invisible for a limited time and needs to
        let his cloak recharge if any of your limited time is used. you can also disguise as a player on the other team but you can still be killed or set on fire by the
        enemy team. can also "sap" an engineers building to slowly kill it and deactivate it. the engineer can take off your sappers.

some classes are better at killing sentries/etc then others. some classes just always beat others (pyro > spy for example). and thats just how the game goes. your team wont do shit if they are all the same class, it needs to be organized correctly to work out good.

and about half life. i dont know how you dont know what it is
