So, I just came in here to get some more actual information on the Xbox One and after reading through this thread....not too much popped out. I own a PS3 right now, and was actually considering switching over to Xbox One for next gen. But now here is my beef with Xbox One.
1. The always connected idea is not a problem for me. As people have said, Microsofts target audience has access to internet. What is the problem about this, is that it requires you to be online to play single player games. What happens when server maintenance, internet company maintenance, increased bandwidth usage on the users end (I live with 5 other guys using the "best" internet available that everyone wants to chip in for). All these things make me weary about always online. Diablo 3 was always online, and I could not play even when servers were down. I hate that shit. Now, if it scans once every 24 hours like I think I read somewhere with the option to manually scan, then that could prevent this. For example, in order to play online you obviously have to connect. But if the One itself only scans once every 24 hours for connection, then after its scan, you could technically unplug ethernet and be set for the day. Maybe im interpreting that wrong, but that sound best case scenario.
2. The always on Kinect thing. Let's be real: Microsoft isn't going to spy on your living room and watch you when you sleep. All this going around with PRISM and government security has everyone on edge. The reality is: Microsoft is going to share your logged information regardless of how they get it. If they see you browsing movies, more movie ads. FPS games? That is your specific market. What will they get from the Kinect? I'm not too sure. But they aren't going to watch you vacuum and request vacuum ads. This is one of the most outrageous complaints I have seen against the system yet.
3. Used games. I buy used games ALL THE TIME. I can't afford buying brand new games every time one comes out. I would love to, but it just isn't in my current or future budget plans. Used games are perfect to save 20 bucks and get a game that is only a few months old. Also, I can lend them to my roommates or my friends and they can play. And even though I know Gamestop gets hate, and the rewards system is shit, but I just saved 30 bucks there using my points from the past year and a half. I want this to still happen, and it seems like One is eliminating that. It may be inevitable for gaming future, but right now, I will go with the system that lets me still do this and that is the PS4.
All in all, this is my beef with One. Maybe if my future has unexpected budget increase, I will get both new systems. Right now however, One is not appealing enough to make me switch. It looks like a fine system to continue on the Xbox train with, or for new buyers, but not enough to make me switch. Hopefully this adds a new perspective on this otherwise debate-filled thread.
