outside of every stable house there is a carriage that will take you to any major city and then you can just go to your map and fast travel to the nearest one to your destination

yeah im barely along on the main story ive been doing side quest for like 20 hours

Some care to break it down for me real quick before I decide to join the stormcloaks for the empire

I know the stormcloaks are Pro Nord and anti any other race or at least thats what the people of windhelm are acting like they want to rid skyrim of the empire but why?

and the empire is more of a civil faction thing but I dont see why they can be considered the badguys here?

If you didnt follow the empire guy at the start of the game can you still join them?
