Microsoft either debunked the used game fee rumour or changed their mind. Microsoft is now officially stating that when you install the disc on a console for the second time, it will deactivate the game on the previous console it is installed in. If you want to reactivate the game, you will have to put your disc back in.

Most people buy used games so it makes sense not to do what they thought about doing. They actually listened to complaints is what it sounds like.

Gamestop and other buy/sell companies were prolly shitting their pants.

I bought two used games all last gen. GTA IV when I lost by original copy (I think I gave it to someone and forget who I gave it to) and Fallout NV when my copies disc broke. I tend to buy games new. I agree with Cnote though, I bet they're just debunking rumours, a company wouldn't change policy so quick.

Oh for those wondering the source, it's Polygon. I don't have the link because I'm not at a PC but they're a reliable site founded by the former editor in chief of Joystig. They don't make up stories.

The Xbox One will not require gamers to pay a fee to reactivate a used game, but it will require a regular online spot check to verify the authenticity of games being played, according to sources familiar with the system.

And that's not a very intrusive DRM feature. If you can afford an Xbox you can afford internet, even if it's just satellite or very low bandwidth internet.

i think it's a case of sounding worse than it actually is.

it sounds like a true inconvenience.. but most gamers have internet - so how would that prevent a gamer with internet from buying it?

well there are always circumstances that can arise causing them unable to afford net, essentially making it useless
and an example of another situation
i have an irl friend who goes to his cottage sometimes, it has no net, but he likes to bring his games and such when he goes, in this situation it would become useless

but now you're speculating about the frequency of the checks. this is how those crazy rumors get started...
