There is no spin. The moral of the story is Sony is struggling and Microsoft is not.

How about in console sales, who's struggling there?

Already been stated in this thread that Sony has more console sales. Too bad they have no exclusives and the rest of their company divisions are floundering.

At this rate, Playstation will be sold to Samsung.

I except more from you Timmy. :(

The more then projected losses came from selling the Viao line. Since you are implying that has a direct relationship on PS4, care to explain?

I didn't say it had a direct relationship. I said if Sony can't support itself as a company it will sell off even profitable portions of their business especially if they bankrupt. PlayStation being profitable is not enough to keep Sony afloat.

And NO, last year's losses totaling over $1 Billion were those due to selling off Vaio (a failure).

This year they projected a loss of $450 Million (from the continued process of liquidating the failing PC line), with the outlook for profitability within 2 years. Just most recently they changed that projection for a loss of $450 Million to over $2 Billion due to failing mobile phone product line. They called it a "one-time loss", but we will have to wait and see how long they stay in the red with new projections for next year.

So overall, they have posted losses of $1 Bil, $1 Bil, and $2 Bil over the past 3 years, likely with another loss year to follow.

This is where you are wrong. Sony, much like other major companies, are ran in divisions. Every division can fall under and as long as PlayStation is profitable it wo stay afloat. For example, they don't take te profits of PS4 sales and produce a movie. That's just not how companies of this scale work to protect itself from the very scenario you described. It's not a community bank account across every division of Sony or any other company.

No, you're wrong. Yes, they are run in divisions with separate budgets, but they still have general stockholders which are responsible for the capital investment with corresponding central executives that oversee the company as a whole. You can't invest in the PlayStation Division, you can only invest in Sony.

If every part of Sony went red except for PlayStation, Sony would likely dissolve and liquidate all of their divisions. PlayStation as a brand would be sold and bought by a larger company.

Is this from your experience as a CEO of a major company?

So you understand that Sony financials don't have a direct bearing on the PlayStation, so I don't undertand why you went full-fanboy. I know you're smarter then that.

And exactly why can't Sony exist as PlayStation? Saying what you think will happen is all speculation. I think if that were to happen, And Sony see's any success similar to what tey are seeing now, they would be giants in the video game industry.

/edit

Even in your scenario, the console would still exist.
