To me the game is 100% a competitive fps game comparable to CoD, Halo, BF, etc
To me it's a competitive multiplayer fps shooter like halo(low gravity shields etc) that uses the idea of preloaded classes like CoD and BF where you unlock weapons and attachments through leveling and kills
But instead of using level, experience, and specific kill counts to unlock weapons and attachments, Destiny took a different approach to unlocking weapons and attachments through the missions and strikes
So to me the game feels like it was definitely meant to be a competitive shooter and the side/strike missions was your way of progression and unlocking your weapons
Not sure if you guys know what I mean but yea
Basically
Pure Halo multiplayer shooter that uses the idea of character loadouts like CoD and BF and uses side/strikes mission as a way to unlock weapons/attachments for the loadouts instead of kills/XP/level progression like CoD/BF does
Thas jas meh dough
Gotta keep in mind Raids are a crucial aspect of the PvM game that hasn't released yet. So no one can really make an accurate review of it until that releases. And the Reef gameplay as well.
As for gear, I've gotten 9 of my 13 legendaries via Crucible and 1 of my 3 exotics as well. So to me, Crucible is the better play to upgrade gear until Raids.
It's also hard to compare PVP/PvM because all the PvM this far has been a max of 3 players per party. So Raids will open up a whole new level of PvM experience for players.
*Playing the level 28 Nightfall Strike has been probably the most fun I've had on a video game in years. I was in tears from laughing at one point.
