It really is out of the question. In todays market, people aren't willing to spend that much on a console with a limited library of games. Microsoft also cares more about getting people than making money, and they can afford to take a hit. $400 makes so much more sense than $500-600.
$400 is still going to cost more. $60 for online(if they keep it at that price)
$60 for a second controller for those who need it.

this was a console reveal not a game reveal.
and no xbox is not gonna be "always online" and you can still do used games.
