it depends on how far away u are from the TV and what angle it is like on the ceiling or on a table. to big can ruin your eye sight. i have 20/20 and i want to keep it like that
my couches are 4-5 feet away (depending on if u lean froward or backward) from my 2 36 in LCD HDTV which is the perfect distance away you should be to get the full High Definition effect
6-7 feet u should go for 42, i am not sure the ratio for any farther away

I will be posting my set up as i get my XBOX back from repair shop
While my xbox was away i decided i was going to set it up so that i had my Comp + XBOX hooked up to the same monitor

To be quite honest, 46" is overwhelming to me at 12 feet... I don't have 20/20, but with glasses on, some things can get a little out of hand... games like Madden/NHL etc are amazing though,
