Digital is 30-40% depending on the game. Xbox exclusives probably go closer to the 40% because of the buy once play anywhere option that they have on their exclusives

who knows how many people are really into that tho, id wanna see offical statments on the % of retail vs digital

That is the official statement by anyone who has access to those types of things. 30-40% depending on the game. And not many people are that into it but it still would account for a higher number on the few that do

Last year 56% of all video game sales were digital compared to 44% physical. In September of this year digital sales on Sony and Microsoft combined was 500 million dollars. If that was only AAA games, which it obviously isn't then that would be over 8 million copies of games sold at retail. Lets trim that even in half to account for indies and all of that and say that 4 million copies of retail games were sold digitally. If Gears had been released in September when the numbers are even lower compared to October you don't think Gears of war would be even 10% of that 4 million?

And the vast majority of those downloadable only games are like $5-10. Those add up of course but the bulk is still AAA titles. All the top paid for games on the xbox store are AAA titles and 90% of gamers don't buy many indie games unless they are a hardcore gamer. Microsoft and sony will never flat out come out and say "31.32% of X game was digital" but a bit of common sense and research can give you a fairly accurate number to go buy. And considering 99% of the video game media and communities say its 30-40% I'm going to go ahead and say that is generally accurate

See I have no tax when buying digitally. Plus I don't have to worry about losing a game or anything.
