Maybe, worth trying a fix but a third party fan is definately not the solution.

Couldn't find the gif that explains it but this will do.

A normal 360 vents like this ~

If you blast air in from the sides for instance you basically throw the whole ventilation system out of whack and can cause certain parts to be hotter then normal.

Gotchya! Thanks for the input man, much appreciated. Hopefully I can find a short-term solution

Yeah i believe it was you put the other one in where the air comes out, and put it in so it sucks air out of it. I didn't do this myself, as I said a guy at school was telling me about this the other day.

From what I've read or seen, the way the cooling fans are adapted doesn't help the console cool down
It actually traps heat and I've seen/read instances where the fan itself melts(though they were probably playing for vast amount of time but regardless it still trapped heat)

I keep mine vertical and it is 3-4years old now I think. I do not see how it matters really and doubt changing that after 6years is going to help aside from maybe moving some dust around.

A good cleaning would certainly help. Maybe call gamestop and see if they will clean it for you professionally or give you a discount on a new 360.
