Did you read the article? It's not from PlayStation and they divided their departments long ago.

Did I say it was from PS? Most major corporations have separate depts. If the company fails a whole though, 1 of the smaller pillars is not going to hold it up. If people stopped buying Microsoft's computer software tomorrow, Xbox wouldn't stick around, because it's not a big enough part of the company.

If Sony falls to pieces, it won't matter if PS is profitable. They will likely sell out.

No that's exactly what the division meant. If Sony as a brand fails it can continue on as soley a gaming company. It's the same with Microsoft.
