Long story short, my 360 has started overheating regularly lately and I think it's the end of my xboxs duties.. I've had the same console for 6+ years, so it's been a hella good ride regardless.
BUT, before I go out and buy a new one, would anyone recommend buying a cooling fan or w/e?

Also, I think it could be my power box overheating more-so than the actual xbox itself.. Perhaps a new power box would help?

Open Air, Don't stand vertical, Have it blown out with compressed air can likely dust inside is causing overheat. Never block vents on it.

Yeah. The vents on the top allow more hot air out. Sometimes the side will trap it.

The dust is a big one even if it is in an open space. My cousin's original 360 was red ringing, he just blew it out with his own breath and a ton of dust came out. Worked fine after that.

Makes sense.. Ill give it a try later and see if it makes a difference.
I'm assuming the dust is the main reason than.. cause sometimes I can be watching a movie and like an hour and a half in, the xbox will auto shut down with 2 red rings.. and other times it'll turn off after like 20 minutes.

There are some cheats on youtube, my buddy at my college the other day was telling me how he fixes them. something with 2 q tips or whatever... and he added another fan to one of the others (which apparently is not hard at all)
I'd try some quick fixes then go buy another one for like $75 (I got the newest 360 for $75 with no controller locally)

Maybe, worth trying a fix but a third party fan is definately not the solution.

Couldn't find the gif that explains it but this will do.

A normal 360 vents like this ~

If you blast air in from the sides for instance you basically throw the whole ventilation system out of whack and can cause certain parts to be hotter then normal.
