Hello everyone, I've recently been getting more and more interested in learning a new language and since french is basically a dead language in NA I've been looking in to more the mediteranian style or chinese/jap language. I've choosen Japanese simply because I learned how to count from 1-20 while taking karate LOL...so i guess it's a bit more of an edge then any other language.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on self teaching myself or if there is websites and what not.

The fastest ways would be probably making Japanese friends.
I had an american friend once who spoke english jap and korean by learning from his parents. not all completely fluent, but more than enough to communicate.

theres a website called humanjapanese.com that worked for me to learn hiragana, it has a free trial.

Yea Human Japanese is good. I've been using some Rosetta Stone too, but I would learn Hiragana and Katakana first. That's the first thing I learned and it has helped a lot (but I also live in Japan so I see it everyday).
Rosetta Stone is good for learning kanji also. I keep it on kanji and switch it instantly if I need to see romanji or furigana.

I learned to count from 1-20 because of the Japanese invasion/occupation of Korea.

Dunno if you know this or not but the Japanese implemented a lot of their culture upon Korea, forcefully.

That's not what I meant...I meant that their occupation and teachings made future generations of Koreans learn Japanese without even knowing it.
I honestly had no idea of this until I took Korean class.

Well ofcourse! Historically and geographically speaking they are right next to each other.
You cannot rewrite history, but can pass it on to the next generation.
