Why would he need to learn about Kanji if he's only doing an introductory class.
As Knifer said you will use hiragana the most as it's what they use for the most part of their "native language"
Katakana is mostly used for foreign words or names, like Australia or James.
Once you can easily read both scriptures you will most likely go into learning different adjectives and verbs, then they will teach you how to string them together and form basic sentences.
Then they will mindfuck you and teach you Polite, formal, informal ways of saying the SAME THING. And mindfuck you again with Kanji ...
But in the end Japanese is a fun language to learn, and Japanese people will praise you and get overly excited when you say the simplest of things in their language
