how about Hyogo and Hokkaido.
Hokkaido is famous for really delicious sea foods and has Hokkaido-University.
But its cold and now covered in snow in country-side
so visiting in summer is desirable. main city is Sapporo.
Hyogo is located next to Osaka (2nd biggest city in japan)
and Kyoto (Old capital and the best for sightseeing for many foreigner as you know) .
Osaka has Osaka-univ and Kyoto has Kyoto-Univ
(both are among top three university along with No.1 Tokyo-Univ).
Hyogo has also academic city and among them is Kobe-University. Main city is Kobe.
your list includes too minor cities like tottori
(almost nothing there except desert hills)
and Hukui(i dont know what it has) so choose them carefully.
if u want to go to quiet country-side, they are good choice.
other good cities::
Aichi (main city: Nagoya, has Nagoya-univ)
Hukuoka(main city: Hakata, has Kyu-syu-univ)
i know there are minor cities in the list, because all cities have been categorized in the application form in three groups. You get to choose one city from each group.
As a result, due to all main cities being listed in the same group its kinda hard to choose where to go. I chose Tokyo from the first group, Sapporo from the second and i have one choice left , which will be a small country town. Thats where my choice dilemma begins, cuz i really struggle to find any useful information regarding any of the cities listed above ( except Hokkaido ofc ) and their respective universities...Also Nagoya and Hukuoka are not on my list...
But your opinion has been really helpful and i thank you for posting here ^^
