I want to start learning Japanese.
I really wanna do tongue.gif

I just noticed that this word is written like this in Japanese, from anime.

It means kami = god.

But then I were talking business with a chinese woman on msn, and the conversation got on to this word, and me wanting to learn japanese.
She told me that the written word above means god in chinese.

So is anything wrong here, or does it mean god in both or? I thought chinese and japanase were somewhat different. Also how hard is it to start learning kanji (blah, must I?), and katakana, and hiragana?

edit. or how should I start learning?

Well you have to remember that Japanese language originated from the Chinese language, alot of the kanji and pronounciation is the same in Japanese as in Chinese because of the
fact that they had taken the Chinese language and made into what is now know as the Nihongo (Japanese) Language

Ok, thanks. I guess the above is kanji for kami in Japanese, and the same in Chinese then.
I just thought that the two letters were katakana
ka-mi, and I looked it up and it wasn't right by what I found from google.
What about my other questions about learning Japanese?
I appreciate your help.

Edit: I'm also watching rurouni kenshin atm. It's really nice!

I'm not in college now. I've finished high school but haven't decided what to do yet, so messing around with work and earning some money atm.

What online learning programs would you recommend?

Japanese is what made out of Chinese letters (Hanzi) + the Japanese version of calligraphy derived from the Hanzi (Hiragana + Katakana)

In Japanese, the Chinese letters are known as Kanji. In China they call it Hanzi.

Recently, China (not Taiwan) started to use simplified version of Kanji; however, Japan is still using the original version of Kanji.

So since Japanese letters (Hiragana + Katakana) are derived from the Chinese letters. They have alots in common. ( no doubt that Chinese know Japanese Kanji and they have the same meaning)
