I actually found that my friends that drew well learned to read and write it better because most japanese characters are all about the way you write them, if that helps any.

But Japanese is truly not a hard language to learn, just tedious as with learning any language.

The only hard thing about japanese is the kanji. But get a copy of " Genki I: An intergrated course in elementary japanese" and Genki II too.
Those two are great started books. Many japanese language classes uses those books.

I would also like to learn.

Today I picked up a french to japanese book and was quite interested..... until I opened it.

It translates from french to jap, but it doesnt tell you a thing about pronounciation.

I want to be able to speak and listen to it, writing and reading arent in my priorities.

And yes I already watch anime.

Any recommendations?

If you have a Nintendo DS you could try "My Japanese Coach".
You can practice your speech with it, it records your voice, then it matches it with a real japanese persons pronounciation.
And much more of course, like lessons and many mini games for learning new words.
