hiragana is....

あいうえお

katakana is....

アイウエオ

simply the **shape** of the letter is the differs.

katakana is normally express the english word or foreign words in jpnese. for example, in japanese we dunt have a word called soccer ball. so we say サッカーボール、in hiragana it writes さっかーぼーる、 which is unusual so when we write soccer ball in letter we use katakana which is サッカーボール

it's usually expressed in kanji and hiragana - "練習する",
or "れんしゅうする" in full hiragana.

if you mean the pronunciation of "practice" in japanese, it's "プラクティス" in katakana.

i need the verb form for it, as in something i can end with masu, mashita, masen, etc. i asked a friend and he said れんしゅう and that i would use it like

"れんしゅうを します"

not that i dont trust him, but i'd like some reassurance~

Metal told you the dictionary form which is indeed れんしゅうする = verb, or to fit your sentence れんしゅう = noun form.

To use it in polite form, just change the する to します

Although remember to change your 日本 to 日本語
