No no.. I am flattered you try..!
Hmm... I heard Tuttle series is good. (Flash cards... Kana Kanji 1-?) Tuttle even has writing guides.. I believe?
Anything is better than nothing... try and stay away from REALLY cheap books or "dummies" books... dun=mmies books are good for very very basic knowledge and a laugh though.
Living Language is very good too!!! Perfect for Persons learning English, Chinese, German etc etc.
¿Eres un Latino? hablo español, pero no sé si soy buen o no. XD ¡Practica! Practico Español dos días una semana.. Bueno.... ¡Buena suerte hombre!

I looked up...
Japanese the Manga Way is a pretty nice gramma book I googled it for u. It is by the Author Lammers
Try that + Living language (It's audio / coursebook I read it too on google) and get some Kana flash kards to ease yourself... you will find that kana is very easy to learn... Well, you most likely will

Especially if you get the writing book(s) it will be natural.
And about he Kanji comment... It can be confusing... Kun and on readings.. Combinations, etc... I understand? If you shoep online, I suggest buying a first grader book... maybe 2 or 3.. They tend to use Furigana (Kana ) ontop of kanji that will TOTALLY help you... if anymore Qs, psot here or PM. Good luck, you can do it if you put a little effort into it, prefix and suffixs and even the gramamr structure in basic sentences are GG and easy to learn
