you should be somewhat fluent in japanese before you move (you'll need to be able to read/wright aswell). Japanese is a pretty easy language once you get past a few tough barriers, but it takes time to learn it.

The english subtitles you saw were just there for tourists, you need to be able to read hiragana, katakana and almost 2k kanjis to live your everyday life there. Like I said, the language takes time to learn... but really, it's not as hard as it looks like once you get past a few months of learning, it just requires a bit of work every day.

Japanese ain't easy for most western/foreigners. If Japanese was so easy, learning Chinese would be like a piece of cake for me.
Putting work everyday means persisting at it, and I don't think it's easy. lol

Persisting in it isn't that bad if you want to learn it or want to move to Japan, it just requires motivation. I personally find learning languages like German much more annoying because of all the endless grammar rules and stuff, but I guess that depens on the person.

For some reason I'm less reluctant to learn the Japanese ones because they tend make sense... A lot of european languages have rules that are there for no justifiable reason.
