It's been 60 years since the occupation. I think now more Koreans know English than Japanese. I doubt many do now unless they took a specific class for it. But I don't know much about Korea (living in Japan now). I've met a few Koreans here in Japan visiting, they did not know the language, but seem to pick it up fast since it has the same sentence structure as Japanese.

Yes, and also Chinese exchange students pickup Japanese fairly quickly by referring to Chinese characters. But it all depends on the person learning it and motivational reasons behind it.

look up the JLPT and study for it. thats basically the fluency test, so any test prep for that will teach you japanese.

onyomi between both are shared... i think. thats why learning the other language is easy for them.
