why?
i guess to understand this you need to look at Taiwan's history. Taiwanese people are in fact Chinese - they are Chinese who settled down on (Ilha) "Formosa" (this is the original name of Taiwan).
Of course before Chinese people entered Formosa, the island was already inhabited by indigenous people.
It's sad to say, that Chinese then killed a lot of them, but if you take a closer view at history you'll find this kind of "policy" almost everywhere.
During WWII China was fighting Japan (China's archenemy, for more information google for keywords like "rape of nanjing", but this is another story) and sadly they also fought among each other in a civil war, communists versus nationalists, that is. The communist party, actually the smaller and weaker one (China was ruled by the natinal party back then) got supported by the Russians in terms of weaponry and so forth.
The communists became stronger and stronger (the nationl party had to fought aganist the communists and Japan, to boot) and the national party fled to Taiwan. This is the reason or let's say the background as to why there's always been a tension between China and Taiwan, though nowadays relationships have markedly improved.
In fact this is really stupid, we're from the "same blood" and still we're bimbo kids.
Of course "mainland" Chinese people have alienate from Taiwense Chinese people or vice versa - people
have somehow different mindsets .
From my point of view, communism has poisoned the Chinese people and China was too long mired in the past. Chinas economy may be on the rise but i think it's still a long way to walk until China will be "free".
so pretty much the bottom line is: We're all Han-ren (or Chinese).
word.
