hong kong 的房租在中国是NO.1,比你的车库小的出租房价要10000--12500人民币/月,约为1830美元,如果你是作为学生到这里,估计会比较头疼,除非你非常富有。

Fung, he probably doesn't understand Chinese if he's asking for help in English on a Chinese forum.

That said, Fung is probably right; the rent in Hong Kong is astronomical (I am somewhat shocked that it is almost $2k/month, though) so you should be prepared to spend quite a bit of money to live there. You may want to look into very low-end housing options like the Chungking Mansions if you aren't rich.

In terms of study, you need to take classes on pronunciation before trying to learn from someone over Skype (I'm also a foreigner learning Chinese). Tones matter a lot, so you can't just wing it. It's even worse if you want to live in Hong Kong, since they speak Cantonese there, which has 8 tones. Best of luck.

I don't see how that is that Astronomical, maybe it's just where I'm from as well. I live in San Diego for school and rent is about 1600/month. Even back home in Huntington Beach (Orange County, California), Rent on a small apartment is in the same range as well.

I guess I'm just used to living in tiny rooms with low rent :) Personally, I think the housing prices in California are all astronomical, but it's just a matter of perspective.
