You should get screenshots of the items and make sure that the stats at least add up before you purchase them. As with all weapons and armors, currently the maximum upgrade levels an individual armor can have is 400 and the maximum upgradeable stat an item can reach is 600 (with armors reaching 840 with the 40% ultimate armor set bonus).

Armor max stats & Upgrades

Armor can drop with up to 329-330 in a stat;

Mythical upgrades as far as 360 and has a 30% set bonus for a max of 468.

Transcendent upgrades as far as 420 and has a 33% set bonus for a max of 559, with maximum possible upgrades at 327-329.

Supreme upgrades as far as 500 and has a 36% set bonus for a max of 680, with maximum possible upgrades at 368-370.

Ultimate upgrades as far as 600 and has a 40% set bonus for a max of 840, with maximum possible upgrades at 413-415.

Here's what to look out for as obvious signs: It's very rarely possible to be able to max more than one stat on Supreme armor, and pretty much impossible if you want good resists. It's never possible to max more than one stat on Ultimate armor.

Resistances

When you reach 23 / 24 %, you can only upgrade 1% per every 10th upgrade level of the armor. This means if you have reached 23% armor, you can add 1% going from level 9 to 10, 19 to 20, 29 to 30, etc. This is regardless of the upgrade level you reached 23% at so for maximum potential, it is best to get 23% before the armor is level 10 (Or as soon as possible on weaker armor.). Upon the last level of the armor (regardless of the armor level), you will increase 2% instead of 1% of the armor. If the max upgrades and the resists don't match up, it's clearly modified.

This is a good warning thread for any Dungeon Defenders player in general - thank you so much for posting this!

After buying some of my ult/supreme sets sometimes I'm afraid people will go out and buy other sets (that could possibly be modded) and get banned.

Happy Dungeon Defending!

Thanks, I feel this needs to be posted here. I've had many bad trades on here so I figured I'd help someone not get banned.

lol i may have caused a shit ton of ppl bannage

haha

i used to mod this game back when it first came out

i did it for fun and for free, random ppl would join my tavern and i would have a bunch of super sized 9999 weapons laying around with pickup disabled

ppl would marvel at all the pieces and if they asked nicely, id mod them a piece

i modded in both unranked and ranked servers

i finally got caught like 2 months in while joining random games and laying down my god towers (which i did a lot, and surprisingly no1 seemed to care until now)

one guy just said "screenshotted", i knew wat he was getting at, but the irony is that his gear was also modded, anyways my ban came a week after that haha

but yea my work has spread far and wide, im guessing at least 200 ppl

Post at the top still applies though there's a LOT of detailed stuff not included and for good reasons. I felt I should add a note after seeing the thread at the top. *face palm* Was going to post there, but felt it was better here. Here's specific reference to the ultimate set that was checked in the trendy forums.

http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?86149-Item-Check-Thread&p=826652&viewfull=1#post826652

Here's a response from one of the checker. I quoted him because his statement was EXACTLY what I was thinking and it took all of about 2seconds and I was pretty slow because I couldn't believe someone would hack such an awful set.

"The gladius is actually possible if it is Ult+ or Ult++... the armor is all hilariously hacked. My favorite is the chest where tower damage *only* makes it to 839... and how one piece is missing lightning resist (even though it's "enchanted") so 2 other pieces just casually try to make up for it."
http://forums.trendyent.com/showthread.php?86149-Item-Check-Thread&p=826721&viewfull=1#post826721

*btw, enchanted (this is called an "armor tag") means it has all three positive elemental resists. It does NOT mean all 4 resists. Physical resist, either +, - or none (0) is never considered in the tag name.

That none of the "customers" buying this set instantly called out on it is a bit troubling. You (the customer DD player) really need to be discerning because gears like this is not even remotely possible. I'm not here to preach. I've used d2jsp in the past though not for DD and I'll probably use it for others. I think I sold 1 item and bought nothing via here. I do think people need to know a little more about the game (i.e. play it FIRST) before buying the best shit or buying what they "think" is the best shit.

I'd love to list the things wrong with that set, but it's too long and would make it way easy for them to fix. I can say the set failed just about every possible item check, which is astounding. Mana, quality, stats spawn limit, resist total vs. total upgrade needed (mentioned in first post - the boots needed 340 upgrades for the resists), quality check by a couple light years. That's also not counting the subtle things wrong like how the exact number of points were wasted on each of the four resistances. 168 is not needed to have maxed resists in nightmare. There is no way a legit ultimate set owner would make the same "exact" mistake FOUR times on such precious equipment.

Finally, the title of the set, which probably should be first. "Ultimate Knight Tower" - Knight, KNIGHT!!! really? I'd imagine anyone who's opened the game should notice something might not be right here.

tl;dr, know+play the game a bit before rushing to buy very obviously and bannable gear that will turn you into a hermit because you'll get instakicked from every public games. Newbies look at your high stats and will call you hacker by reflex. Veterans who run better games will also ban you because they know you have hacked gear. You'll only be able to play with hackers, which is fine if it's fine with you but in that case, you might as well save the fg and play on open. Get all 9999 gear for free and better maps and cooler weapons too.

The link I provided has the "semi-official" checkers of the game and they are usually more discerning than in-game players. A few of the veterans use the source codes to check items so they are the most accurate and trusted though even they can make a mistake. In general, if an item pass muster there, it's as good as legit even if it's not. For obvious reasons, it's NOT a good idea to mention you're from here.

I'd also be willing to do more generic checks if you pm me a link or pic of an item: should be as complete a picture as possible with mana+description of item and without the set bonus if it's armor. (I'm pretty accurate still on armors up to ult+. My old quality check formula still seems to work and I know some limits on weapon and pet but don't have exact equations and haven't bothered to keep up with updates.) though I don't really check this site much so I might not be quicker than the item checkers.
