it only says invest in forge, any walkthroughs how i can upgrade my shitz?!

1. host a game
2. go to the tavern keeper
3. press "hero info" or "item box"
4. Press at the item you want to upgrade
5. Invest mana to upgrade
6. Farm Monsterfest or sell items to gain more mana
7. repeat and live for life!

another 'noob' question : what types of armor/weapon are best? or is like any high end item the same as soon as its max upgraded?
