Ranger***, Not the Huntress.

So, I decided to go DPS and that isn't doing so well.

I have the mana to respec and I was wondering if I should respec or not and just go full-on traps.

Either way, i'd like better gear to help climb in lvls.

i say you can keep the ranger as dps, but also make an apprentice to build towers. Use apprentice in first few phases, once everything is built, switch to a dps class (ranger in your case). All should go well ;). To climb in levels, the last few levels give a LOT more xp compared to the easier ones, so get there and have fun!

You really need either another player or another character. Soloing the game is annoying, and the problem could easily be solved by playing with others. ^ has it right in terms of how to solo it, but itd be easier to get a buddy.

My first character was a trapper (a tower oriented huntress) and I found it to be absolutely amazing except for ogres. Here were my strats and stat distribution.

At choke points, put a Prox mine. Behind it, put a gas trap (try to set it so that the effect radius of the gas trap ends at teh center of the prox mine. This will cause monsters to stop in teh center of the prox mine, where it's damage is maximized. These two traps will kill everything except poison immune orcs. For these fellas, drop a spike trap behind the gas trap and it should one shot them. So, Prox -> Gas -> Spike will clear everything except ogres. Sadly, Huntress traps are simply not good at killing ogres, so you will have to kite the ogre thru the traps over and over.

For your stats, put a LOT (~50) of points into trap health really early on. You will need the extra charges until you get late game gear. Once you feel like you have sufficient trap charges, drop 20-40 points into hero cast speed. You will need this to repair mines quickly, as you'll spend most of your time repairing your traps during and between waves! Lastly, put 10-20 points into trap radius. The first few points make a big difference, then it starts to taper off. After that, the choice is yours. Prox mines do incredible dmg with few points put into trap damage, so don't worry about that too much. Trap speed simply depletes your trap charges faster, I wouldn't recommend it for lowbies.

This should work for most of the game on normal. Once you get to 70'ish type content, this stat distribution becomes void, as you'll need to maximize dmg output. Let me know when you get there, good luck!

My advice (if you're alright with it) is to get somebody to rush your characters to 70.

The most difficult part of this game is starting out, as there is no foundation for you to do anything.

I wouldnt rush the game, i had WAY more fun early on, compared to the grind the game is at higher levels >___>. Its all about enjoyment. I think most ppl can agree that grinding survivals for hours isnt as fun as it was facing the bosses for the first few times and getting destroyed, having to rethink your setup etc.

But, thats just my opinion :S
