Is it possible to get more than one giraffe pet per character?

I don't know from experience, but I'd assume so. Giraffe is from getting to (now) wave 25 on survival on any map, it's not based on getting an achievement or anything.

Do you have to start at wave 1 or can you start at wave 8?

You can start wave 8, and you can get multiple
