Where is D2jsp based out of and why are they able to sell fg for money..?

Just wondering for the sake of information, I thought you aren't able to make your own currency pretty much anywhere, and from what I can tell they kind of have. And that's why I'm guessing they are based out of somewhere else than the U.S.

Legally if you know anything about these questions and extra remarks based on what I'm asking, please hit me up with some knowledge. :D

Also have they ever been sued or in any legal binds ?

I was just looking for minor questions that I thought long time d2jsper's would know.

But you are right, I guess I can just hit him up and see what he says, does he respond fairly quickly to questions..?

D2jsp is based out of Diablo 2.
Why they are able to sell fg for money, because Diablo 2 LOD is very popular, back in the days and still is now, but when he made this site he made this based out of Diablo 2. People started joining and the site got more and more popular. So then Paul made this amazing genius plan, that fg could be traded for items. So that happened. Then he came up with another genius idea, that since his site was getting really popular, why not put something up for people to buy fg. People started buying fg, and this site excelled. Then that's when the donors forum came into play.

Tl;Dr version, njaguar/paul is a genius.

It can't be considered a real (emphasis on real) currency until it can be proven at least de facto as an exchangeable medium for a variety of goods in its own rights.

Otherwise, things like arcade coins or raffle tickets can be considered currency (when in reality they only suggest a right to redeem at a specified rate.)

d2jsp could probably be sued if the game companies prove that having a viable economy has actually been a detriment to their game, or d2jsp has hindered their own efforts in creating a legitimate one. But it's really hard to sue an outside site that actually helps your game's playerbase and whose main goal is not profitability but creating a stable economic system. (While donations for FG pay for the site and some goes into Paul's pocket, the fact that FG is backed by real currency is how FG gains 2 of the 4 requirements of currency: ability to recognize/exchange for other goods readily and easily.)

Now say, if d2jsp existed for Diablo 3 with the A/H in place. Then, d2jsp could be sued pretty well since it interferes with legitimate operations.

I would place the situation as pretty parallel with fansubs for anime. The digital rights owners could sue, but until they decide to produce their own streaming, download, or physical copy distribution, they would get very little or zero money (other than a cease & desist) from suing fansubbers. And even if they do decide to release through legitimate channels, they can only sue up to their actual losses, and any foreseeable losses due to the fansubbers infringement.

Ya joker, we know they can sell fg for money because the fg is how you get items in all these games on this site and the site is popular lol

Thanks Soviet, you gave me some insight on what I was asking. And ya, you're right, after diablo 3 and other games that might take the same business model as them (real money auctions and what not), things could get messy with real money transactions for fg.

I want more knowledge, people tell me what you're thinking.

It's referred to as purchases the majority of the time instead of donations.

Also, if there are never any donations without FG reciprocation, no matter what you call it, it is legally an exchange of currency for an intangible good/stake.

I'll be surprised if njaguar puts up a D3 section w/o proper legal consultation.

It's an impossibility that Vivendi Blizzard is unawares of this site.
