DLC's give you access to certain maps and if you get it during a sale, its really cheap.

Not really "required", but it helps since you get some specific item drops on those specific maps.

No. UMF has the only gear that's worth anything, and I'm pretty sure it's DLC only. Plus, the DLC heroes are almost universally better.

you could leech ppl doing that map (dont need dlc to join other players with dlc), but I havent seen many ppl doing it in pubs lately.
