But most of the time it'll fill with someone queing who just gets to watch the tail end of the game, doesn't give 'em backfill xp or anything.

This situation was much different:

The game had been going on for about 20 minutes. We were just finishing. The last enemy was at 50-ish HP, and about to die. This was match point for either team. A player leaves, game gets disbanded immediately (no waiting at all). We had *just* killed the other 2 players.

I missed out on 20 minutes worth of XP, plus a win that goes toward a notch on the box rewards.
