Most important thing to learn is what heroes are good against other heroes
And when you should/shouldn't pick a certain hero

Picking Pharah into 3 McCrees isn't a great idea

Learn which characters counter each other.

Really just have fun.

If you suck at aim, then go custom game just do hard anas and turn on head shot only. It will get you better at the game. Pick a area where you feel like you most strong in. Tanking/support/Pure DPS

I play flex support usually but you can get me playing Hanzo/widow/reaper/mecree/soldier/zarya at very high levels too.

Just pick the ones you enjoy. Its just a game. There will people that you will encounter that are salty and think they are godly but really they are the one that sucks and bringing the team down.

Many new players just try to pick a random hero when going into the game. Try to work out a comp with your team

On defense I have found Bastion to be a great hero to play

players that I hate and everyone hates having on their team is Bastion, Torbjorn, Symetra. That being said if you are very good at them it is a different story. Some of the best characters to get good at are Zennyata, Mercy, Rein, 76, Junkrat, roadhog, genji. Really all the characters are good. Those are just some of my favorites to play and usually help the team out alot. Its much better to be a team player in this game rather than a solo.

Not exactly. People will change heroes frequently during games though

Don't get your hopes up with ranked, unless you have mediocre friends to play with. Most teams around 2600 tend to crumble if they lose a choke point or objective. It's awful.
