I think it just comes down to the fact that Winston's potential is much more dependent on proper team composition and strategy than other heroes.

Plus.. a right click would be fun

Balance has to take into consideration all relevant skill levels: Beginner to intermediate to advanced to nolife. Even absolute retards (lower than beginner) are taken into consideration (check certain Hearthstone nerfs to see an example of that).

At low tiers, there are no good Widowmakers. That brings Winston's use levels down massively. Many other factors too.

I'm looking forward to the new ladder so I can place in a better rank. I feel like 2000 is a barrier that is difficult to pass. Allies don't do their jobs, constant griefing, I've run into grandmasters every 50 games or so weirdly... so some weird partial-premade teams mess things up too.

winston is used effectively at diamond, not just grandmaster. Maybe its like that on consoles but from what i've seen on youtube master level games on console look like plat games on pc. In fact winston dva was a thing towards the end of the season on those hard to push chokepoint maps especially 2 cp.

You cant balance a game around low levels of play and then give it a big push as a esport. Overwatch is the newest esport and is being taken very seriously as one. Ruining the balance for high level play to accommodate for retards won't help that scene grow.

Also your current rank for season 2 will be your jump off point for your placements in season 3 so don't expect to place higher than you were the previous season it's not likely.

winston is pretty good if you have an ok team that can make use of what he's good at - disruption of the backline and harassing snipers

He's good at peeling too

it really doesn't take alot if the winston is half decent, zarya + zenyatta or ana (provided she can hit a shot on a character model as big as a house) and winston can pretty much have his way with the backline.

back to symmetra though, i feel she can at least be helpful on attack now. like if theres a bastion or a turret she can project the shield towards it while the team rushes forwards together without getting mowed down. if the team can coordinate anyways.
