So this happened almost a month ago I have a court appearance the 6th. I was driving to dunkin before I went to work and needed to make a lane change. So I started making a signal over at 35MPH (speed limit was 45MPH) and a white newer model jeep was speeding up so I couldn't lane change but I clearly needed too with my signal being on for more then 5 seconds. I started getting over and it looked like everything was fine so i turned into where I needed to go. 30 seconds later I look up in my mirror and see lights coming off the dash of the white jeep. I get over and wait for him to approach. Guy gets out of the car with a vest and gun on and asks if I know how to drive. I tell him yes of course.. what is the problem? He responds with you hit my car. I say there's no way I did that.. He tells me to come out and look so I do. he shows me a little scratch the size of the white part of a finger nail on his rental 2015 jeep. He then proceeds to call it in and fill out an accident report. The whole station came down. Had to be about 5-6 squad cars. They take pictures of his damage (a white scratch the size of the white part of a finger nail) and then an officer fills out a accident report. They ask for my license and registration which I pull out and notice my registration form I had in my car expired yesterday, there's a ticket for that. Along with an unsafe lane change ticket. Apparently the white jeep rental owner was the police chief, and just to be a dick he said to me, yeah you just paid $250 for a trip for coffee. Anyway never gotten a ticket before especially one like this my insurance guy even laughed his ass of at this. But how do I go forward and pay this ticket? Do I just show up on the court date with my registration papers proving I was covered and with the money for the unsafe lane change ticket?
