I just started a summer internship as a software developer and I would like to write about my experiences.

Day 1:

First I had to go through orientation. This was basically just getting my security badge made and learning about the employee website. It was at a different office from the one I was going to be working at so they didn't go into detail about the office environment. After that I drove the location where I'd be working and got introduced to some of the other interns, employees, and my supervisor, Bob. I mentioned in the interview that I like data structures so they decided to have me working with databases which is the same thing /s.

All I did from then to the end of the day was read postgreSQL documentation. Honestly, I dozed off a couple times. But for Day 2 I'll have my mug with me for coffee so that shouldn't happen again. I don't know what I'll be doing on Day 2, and I'm still a little confused on how to get into the building. But Bob, although not a great teacher, of course knows I'm new and don't know a lot about the company's various resources so he's helping me out. I just wish they had better documentation about their different database servers and stuff.

So we'll see how Day 2 goes and hopefully I'll be able to actually write about interesting things happening.

Day 2:

I didn't do all that much, I mostly just tested things out in the programming language that our database uses. At the end of the day I was given the assignment of finding all the differences in database tables that should be more or less the same. Like maybe one gives 20 spaces for a last name but the other gives 25 spaces. Things like that. So I guess I'm working on that for the next couple of days.

Days 3, 4 and 5:

I continued looking for all of these database discrepancies and started asking around to see if changes people made are still being worked on or if they are finished and whether or not they need to change it back. We want our test databases to be just like our live database for consistency so if someone changes something and decides it doesn't work out then we want them to change it back.
