Back in 2011 I made a EHM game report of the New York Rangers but was unable to continue playing after the first year because of a game bug.
Well recently (last year) a game named Franchise Hockey Manager came out and its alot more stable than the old EHM.
Don't think any of you people remember me since I doubt anyone reads this shit anyway.
So I decided to make another game story that hopefully lasts longer than the last one.

Since i'm playing on FHM 2014, I had to start during the 2013-2014 season.
So I decided to let the 2013-2014 season play out without controlling a team, then picking my team out of the available ones at the end of the season, depending on whoever gets fired first.

Game Settings will be as follows :
Injury Frequency = 1.25
Injury Frequency Training = 1.10
Player Peak Age = 25
Aging Speed = Very Slow (I like long careers :) )
Goals/Game = 5.57
Assists/Goal = 1.82
Penalties/Game = 6.50

This is actually gonna be my first time managing an NHL team in this game, i've only played with AHL or European teams so far (And also a Japanese team).
So i'm probably gonna do terrible but I guess thats part of the fun.

Coming up soon, the end of the 2013-2014 season and the first contract.

2013-2014 Season

Stanley Cup Champions : Colombus Blue Jackets

That's right, Columbus actually won something. Mainly because Ryan Johansen had a breakout year with 83 points, but also because Bobrovsky stopped everything during the playoffs.

Awards
Maurice Richard Trophy : Jeff Carter (64)
Art Ross Trophy : Sidney Crosby (114)
Best +/- : Sidney Crosby (40)
James Norris Memorial Trophy : Andrew MacDonald (43 Pts, 38 +/-)
Frank J. Selke Trophy : Sidney Crosby (114 Pts, 40 +/-)
Vezina Trophy : Roberto Luongo (57 GP, .923 SV%, 7 SO)
Best Save % : Roberto Luongo (.923 SV%)
William M. Jennings Trophy : Corey Crawford (170)
Hart Memorial Trophy : Sidney Crosby (82 GP, 114 Pts)
Conn Smythe Trophy : Ryan Johansen (24 GP, 31 Pts)

Now that that's all done, we have to look at the teams that have fired their GM this season.
There are only 3 teams available to play, the Minnesota Wild (28th), the Toronto Maple Leafs (29th) and the Dallas Stars (20th)

Since I played the New York Rangers last time I kinda wanna play a Western Conference team so I won't pick Toronto.
And since I don't really wanna deal with the huge contract of Minnesota and their injury problems I will pick the Dallas Stars.

And with that, Wacko Sucks is the new GM of the Dallas Stars, lets look at what our owner has to say :

Code
Welcome as new General Manager of the Dallas Stars.

You have signed a 3 year contract, with a yearly salary of 100 000$. The owner of the Stars is Tom Gaglardi and you have the following objective in the NHL : Rebuild.

Your budget to achieve this is 67,000,000$ and the current payroll of your team is 59,863,825$.

The best player in your team is LW Jamie Benn and LD Jamie Oleksiak is the most promising prospect.

The NHL trading deadline is on February 27th, 2015, the salary cap is 64,300,000$ and the salary floor is 44,000,000$

UP next is going to be the 2014 entry draft, player resigns and free agency!

Well its already June 22nd and we are getting ready for the NHL 2014 Entry Draft.

The Philadelphia Flyers finished last this season and won the lottery so they will be drafting first.

The stars will be drafting 11th this year.

Team Picks :
11th - Leon Draisaitl (C)
41st - Kasperi Kappanen (RW)
71st - Nikolaj Ehlers (LW)
101st - Brendan Lemieux (LW)
131st - Kaapo Kähkönen (G)
161st - Dane Fox (C)
191st - Andreas Radin (RD)

I like our first 3 picks and i'm surprised we managed to get Kappanen in the 2nd round, as he was in the top 15 available players in the draft.
The other picks were pretty much me picking the best player available at the time or listening to my scouts.

Resigns :
Stephane Robidas - Testing the Market (That one hurts)
Brendan Dillon - 2.6M$/5 years
Ray Whitney - Testing the Market (FINE I DON'T WANT YOU ANYWAY  )
Alexandre Roussel - 1.3M$/5 years (He didn't accept but he's a RFA anyway so we'll sign him later)
John Moore - 855 000$/3 years
Vernon Fiddler - 1.3M$/1 year (He's pretty old but he agreed on a 500K salary cut so he'll be back this year)
Marek Zidlicky - No contract offer (3M$ is way too much for a bottom pairing defenceman)

Rest of resigns are minor league resigns of lesser importance.

Free Agents budget is more or less 15M$

Free Agents offers :
Torey Krug (RFA - Boston) - 3M$/4 years (The bruins are short on money so hopefully we can pick him up for only a 2nd round draft pick)
Dion Phaneuf - 6.3M$/4 years (This one hurts, but I need an older guy to anchor my defensive line this year)
Jay McClement - 1.5M$/1 year (Needed a 4th line center)

Offseason Trades :

Dallas Stars Offer :
D Brenden Dillon
D Kevin Connauton
RW Alex Chiasson
C Jason Dickinson
2015 3rd Round Pick

to the LA Kings for :
D Slava Voynov
LW Kyle Clifford
LW Jaden Schwartz

I had too many young defencemen and not enough spots in NHL/AHL for all of them so I decided to trade up.
Clifford will be perfect on the 3rd line and Schwartz should replace Chiasson on the 2nd line.

Dallas Stars Offer :
D Trevor Daley
D John Moore
2016 3rd Round Pick
Rights to Antoine Roussel LW

to the Minnesota Wild for
D Aaron Ekblad

Well I wanted to draft Ekblad from the start, and he pretty much replaces John Moore on our 3rd pairing right now.
I didn't really have a spot for Daley and Roussel wouldn't sign with us so I got rid of them.
I think I overpaid, but I don't think i'll regret it in a few years when Ekblad becomes our best Dman.

Final NHL Roster :

The Stars got both Pacioretty and Gallagher from the Habs during the 2013-2014 when the Habs went into full panic rebuild mode in the middle of the season.
But hey i'm not complaining ;)

Next up is the month of October!

Total Month Record : 11GP 7W - 2L - 1OTL - 1STL 16PTS (5th in the West)

Well we had a pretty good month, however those 2 injuries were pretty brutal and I don't expect next month to be too amazing.
Hopefully we don't get plagued by more injuries and Pacioretty and Seguin come back near the end of the month.

Forward of the Month : J. Benn 11GP 3G - 10A - 13PTS 8+/-
Defenceman of the Month : S. Voynov 11GP 2G - 8A - 10PTS 9+/-
Goalie of the Month : K. Lehtonen 11GS (7-2-1-1 2.07GAA .931SV%)
