Conclusion
Introduction:Hi, my name is Jeff. I have been part of the svs dueling community since around 2005 in LOD. A lot has changed since then, specifically with the addition of the runeword Obsession, which is now meta for both 200fcr and 105fcr vita fire setups. I will note that this guide will only be covering vita fire sorc setups, as this is superior to an energy shield setup in svs. If you have any questions, or comments regarding this guide, please let me know in the comments or via pm. I will cover optimal builds as well as budget builds and different options for skills. When it comes to 200 fcr vs 105 fcr, they are both very viable options and will come down to preference. For anyone who has done svs back in LOD and is looking to try it out again, it is worth giving 105 a chance, as this is now my primary setup.

These are the stats if you have on all perfect gear, using my primary setup @ level 95:
105 Faster Cast Rate (with Fire Setup)
4,822 life
26k damage
60% Fhr
105% Fcr
85 resistance to lightning and fire / 450 total resistance to cold
Gear All gear will be listed with perfect stats, clearly go with what you can afford/find. You can opt for either 105 setup, 200 setup or both. The 200fcr setup requires base strength alone. The 105fcr setup requires 20 added points into strength for gothic plate armor or 10 added strength for eth gothic plate enigma/COH. So there is only a minor strength investment to have both setups available (or you can respect).
105 Faster Cast Rate SetupsFire SetupGeneral: 10% max fire resist is allowed or 5% and dwarf star.
Setup #1Helm: 3 Fire Skills/100 Life/2 Socket Circlet – Socketed Jah/Vex
a. Alternative socket Cham/Vex if running frw setup (enigma) for cannot be frozen
b. Can socket Jah/Jah if buying one helm, use infernos for fire and wisp for light
Amulet: 3 Fire Skills/100 Life
Weapon: Obsession + Call To Arms
Preferred 3 Fireball/3 Fire Mastery Obsession Base. Perfect roll is 25% Life/70 All Resist. The life % is the most important part. You should reroll this to reach 25% life if possible. The base can get extra skills, such as Chilling Armor like the one I use, but these are very rare and much more expensive.
Armor: Jeweler’s Armor of the Whale 100 Life – Socketed with 4x Jah Runes
1. Gothic Plate of the Whale
I prefer Gothic Plate because it’s the lowest strength requirement on a 4 socket armor, being 70. This means only 20 points of strength are needed for the build, leaving the remaining points for life. Additionally, this armor shows up bright red when worn for extra aesthetic appeal (see picture at top).
2. Dusk Shroud of the Whale – This armor is a lighter armor, giving you more frw speed. The strength requirement is 77, just slightly more than gothic plate. You can use another armor here, but the lower the strength requirement, the more life you will get.
Shield: To accompany CTA
1. Splendor – I use eth gothic shield for red appearance (looks nice with red armor)
2. Lidless – Can use Dol Rune for +7 Life rep on swap
Gloves: Magefists
Belt: Arach
Rings: Sojs/BK rings – I use Sojs for normal duels and BK rings for ladder duels
Boots: 65 Life Waterwalks
Alternative setup - Enigma:Armor: Eth Enigma – Dusk Shroud or Gothic Plate
Enigma gives you more damage than the lifer armor option, hitting 28k damage over 26k, and a large frw bonus. Eth armors require 10 less strength to use. In sorc vs sorc, you do not lose durability. You can go with Ethereal Gothic Plate Enigma, but the frw will be less because it is not a light armor. You can use a breast plate for lower strength requirement, but COH will be used for cold setup and you need a 4 socket armor. The strength bonus can allow you to wear spirit with your call to arms for higher battle orders. This is a cheaper option than the lifer armors and can go with COH for a cold setup.
Shield: To accompany CTA
1. Eth spirit monarch
Boots: Aldurs – 40frw + high life
Helm: 3Fire/100Life/2Socket – Cham/Jah for cannot be frozen
Lightning SetupGeneral: Max absorb is 10%, or tgods, or wisp. Lo and wisp is not permitted.
Setup #1Helm: 3 Fire Skills/100 Life/2 Socket Circlet – Socketed Lo/Lo
Amulet: 3 Fire Skills/100 Life
Weapon: Obsession + Call To Arms
Armor: Jeweler Armor of the Whale 100 Life – Socketed 4x Jah
Shield: To accompany CTA
1. Splendor
2. Lidless
Gloves: Magefists
Belt: Arach
Rings: Sojs/BK rings
Boots:
1. 65 Life Waterwalks
2. Life Rep boots with Light Resist
Alternative Setup – EnigmaArmor: Enigma
Shield: Eth Spirit with CTA
Boots: Additional option of 40frw/Light Resist boots
Belt: Tgods
Helm: 3Fire/20Fcr/2 Socket – Cham/Jah for cannot be frozen
Alternative Max Resist/Absorb SetupsOption 1:
Helm: 3Fire/20Fcr/2Socket Jah/Jah or Jah/Cham
Belt: Tgods
Option 2:
Helm: 3Fire/100Life/2Socket Jah/Jah or Jah/Cham
Ring: Wisp + SOJ/BK
Cold SetupGeneral: Max cold stack is 450 cold resist (hard cap, cannot exceed at all) or 420 + 1 piece of absorb (raven). 450cr is superior, get as close to this or even to 450 if possible.
Setup #1:Helm: 3 Fire Skills/100 Life/2 Socket Circlet – 2x 20Life/30cold resist jewels
Budget option 2x Thul runes
Amulet: 3 Fire Skills/100 Life
Weapon: Obsession + Call To Arms
Armor: Jeweler Armor of the Whale 100 Life – Socketed 4x 20/30cr jewels
Socketed 4x thul runes for budget option
Shield: To accompany CTA
1. Splendor
2. Lidless
Gloves: Trangs (30cr)
Belt: Arach
Rings: Sojs/BK rings
Boots:
1. 65 Life Waterwalks
2. Life Rep boots with Cold Resist
3. 40frw/cold resist boots
Alternative Setup – Chains of Honor (COH)Armor: Eth COH
This armor is to compliment the enigma setup, but when trying to cold stack.
Boots:
1. Life Rep boots with cold resist
2. 40frw/Cold resist boots
3. Resist boots with 40 Cold resist (duel res or tri-res pair)
Ring: Life/Cold resist ring- does not need fcr, bonus would be life rep
You will likely need a ring to make up for the lack of cold resist from this setup. Even with perfect resists on all items, you get to 445 cold resist. While this is close, and you can work with this, if you have less than perfect resist on all items, this is the slot to make it up. You cannot exceed 450 cold resist.
Note: These setups do not have a cannot be frozen option. The options here would be to wear trangs belt, or drop cold resist down to 420 and add a raven frost. You can add a cham rune, but would need to make up that cold resist elsewhere.
