So, I'm learning Russian and I came across some interesting verbs that involve changing locations (running, climbing, swimming, etc.)

Could some explain to me the difference between verbs such as плывут/плавают and бегут/бегают

I know it's really intuitive to you guys but it isn't to me.

its is same intuitive like difference between run/running in
we are running home now / we run home every day
in English

This is correct. It's the difference between present continuous (running, swimming) and simple present (run, swim). бегут would be present continuous - they are running right now. бегают would be simple present - they run, in general.
