How do I get essence? Event is + suffencing xp but I’ve never had essence

you need to use a tier1 items (start with magical) and transmute it. you will destroy the item and get an essence if you are successful.
Then you can use that essence with either a tier1 comfrey, fish, glyph to get higher life/mana on comfrey/fish or longer duration on glyph.

the + suffencing xp is only refering on experience that you usually get when killing monsters.. so you can also lvl up your char with skilling, now it works faster than usually (with suffing xp).
but you dont get more profs for your suffing lvl

You can also use essences to reroll the stats on another item of same lvl

Is there a method to what I want to use items I want to use it on

Take a lvl 1 magical essence + lvl 1 magical dagger, robe whatever to the transmute box and click mute. It will instantly change the stats. You can keep doing this until the item breaks (disappears).
