Exp gain increases the amount of experience you gain per kill.

Exp cap increases the ceiling of which you are able to gain experience.
This is useful if you are wearing gear with the stat + % Experience Gained.
On regular events, you may only be utilizing say.. 10% exp gain when you kill a monster. Whereas with this Event, the maximum experience gain you can achieve is raised +31% over the "normal" cap.

On a side note, it would help going down trapdoor and fighting monsters a higher level than your own. The cap would be useful in that scenario as well.

Does that answer your question?

So as a soloplayer, this stat does nothing unless I add on +exp gained gear? Why would +exp gained even have a secondary cap... that is unfortunate to hear. I assumed this was something with having different level people in a party be lead as lower level characters are "capped" on the xp they get per kill in party play.

I edited too slow, but I meant to mention that it is also useful in the scenario where you go down a trap door as well. Harder monsters above your level will provide you more experience gained when the Cap is raised. This would mean you gain more exp killing evil presences as well.

I guess I just don't understand how the experience cap works fighting EP your own level - I noticed an EP gave me between 4-5% xp during this event, but I never noticed how much they've given me outside of the event.

It's around 2-3% on an event that has no cap.
Exp Gain is a nice event modifier. Exp Cap, when alone, is an underwhelming event modifier.

I would like to see them spawn as one combined modifier, because they are great when they accompany each other.. however, that's just my opinion.

Example:

You kill a monster and get base experience points for that kill: Say 1-100 experience.
The 100 is CAP, so with this Event of +31% experience cap and you kill a monster it would be: 1-131 experience.

As for Evil Presence, they give Double the experience points: Say 2-200 and with Event 2-262 experience.

Experience Gain applies to the 1-100 ... so if it was 10% exp gain ... 1-110 and the Cap would be 141 ... think that is how it works combined.

EDIT: my mathematics maybe off, surely someone will point this out.
