muting:

you get essence from an item, from magical to the magical tier of the item randomly

you can use this to reroll an item of the same tier

if you reroll items there is a chance that the item degrades to a lower magical level or poofs entirely

if you reroll an item with an essence make sure to use the same magical tier, it can only roll max to the magical tier of the item even if essence is higher, so using a mythical item and arcane essence you get a mythical item (or even lower)

you can reroll heavy weapons for 2 essence per roll

there is a tooltip on essences saying "skill rank req: xx" this used to be the minimum prof someone needed to roll the essences, but now any character can roll any essence, you just need the prof to get the essence

suffing:

you need essences from muting for this

you can increase the effectiveness of fish and comfreys, lengthen the duration of glyphs or combine essences to create higher magical stat ones

you can only suff items of the same tier, for comfreys tier only shows up if you lift the item up

you combine 2 essences to create a higher level one so 2 magical for 1 rare, 2 rare for 1 mystical etc.

also there is the tooltip of minimum item needed to level up, this has been changed also so you get prof even if you do lower ones than shown

for muting you are generally able to do the highest one shown, but lower levels are a bit weird with high fluctuations in the bars, most efficient for leveling the prof is doing closer to the minimum shown

you will not really get much prof for doing ones one tier lower than the tier of the minimum shown, so for example if you look at the chart, once you reach prof 15 in muting you won't get much reward for muting tier 3's

suffing you can interrupt and still get prof

fastest leveling of suffing is to use fish and essences, you can buy low tier ones of both occasionally for like 0.01 fg per or something cheap

also there are events, for muting faster muting is good if you want to get a lot of essences, but bad for getting prof since it scales down to be the same amount for the time spent doing it, but you need to spend time or fg collecting items

for using the essences try to wait for +% item stat quality and/or +% magic luck effectiveness event because these both effect the quality of the rolls (you should wear as much magic luck gear as you can when rolling)

for suffing there is suffing enhanced effect increase which goes up to 100% so valuable glyphs, fish, comfreys should get suffed during these

as far as I know wearing magic luck gear doesn't increase the quality of suffing or the chances of getting higher essences from muting
