Softcore. More players, more gear, wont lose char/gear if you die.

Sc because it will be possible to get the gear you need in less than a year

Most prefer SC because if you accidentally RIP your char you dont loose it as well as the gear on it, as mentioned above. however ive noticed on sc, most are like robots and just do whistle climbs to get a quick mq. a quick whistle climb on sc probably averages about an hour.

if you prefer a challenge, try HC. knowing if you rip you loose your gear and char. the challenge associated with how scarce decent gear is on hc. most of the time climbs will be solo, and you may on occasion get a group together for a climb or help.

the player base is currently (id estimate) 95% / 5% sc/hc.

you are limited to 8 characters on each core. id suggest to just make 8 on each. a primary and secondary char, and the rest mules. and just try both out? it really comes down to personal preference, and availability of games.

i would also add that sc is group based so gear is moreso ee weaps and stat gear. hc being more solo based gear would be more reliant on ee all around, but having some stat gear for those occasional climbs would be beneficial

You can create 8 characters for each core, so in reality you can play both.

You can start on SC to get some bearing and starter gear cheap, then when you get a handle on it and want to play Hardcore for a bit more challenge, then you can.

Have fun playing.

witha smaller player base i could see people paying a lot of fg for high level fishes, and high level muted and suff'd gear. it takes some time to farm the items needed to level in any skill you plan on following in, and they typically cross paths. you'll need to climb and eventually pay for items to keep you leveling in your choice of craft. most skillables average anywhere between 1-3fg each.
