Do you get more prof points if you use a higher rod?

i am level 32 in fishing and use a rod for skillrank 45
and its seems so for me that i get 5-8 points each fish instead of 1-4

anyone have expirience with that?

Yes you get more prof if you use a higher rank rod, but you fish slower

Or another way to put it, you get more prof because* you fish slower

Agree. Though I found using too high of a rod led to too many releases. So even if you get more prof per fish, you might get less prof per hour.

has it always been this way? I remember higher rank fishermen telling me to use the fishing rod closest to my fishing level. <_<

guess ill rack my 25'rods and bump it to 30 or 35 rods.

Assuming 100% success rate, your prof per hour will be close to the same, but you will have fewer fish, and thus your cooking prof will also suffer

Yes the prof per hour shouldn't be very different, I think you should get a bit more with a higher rank rod, but like he said you'll get fewer fish

And if you use one that's a lot higher than your rank and/or you adjust your fishing level you get more "escaped the hook" I'm pretty sure and that's annoying

I switch to the next tier of rod as soon as I feel I like the speed/hardness ratio better. For me that's usually using a rod 5 ranks higher so I'll start using a 30 rod around rank 25/26 fishing, then 35 around 30/31 fishing and so on

But I almost never fish without an event and that changes things further :D Then I adjust even more depending on what I wanna do and the %

I was trying to ask about fishing but seems my question has been answered. Is that why the skill rank 5 rod works better then the skill rank 15 rod? I'm currently lvl 3 fishing. Should I be using the tier 1 rod?

It depends on what you wanna do... idk what people's goals are

If your only goal is to get fishing prof as fast as possible, then using higher rank rods will work better, you should get slightly more prof/hour I think?

If your goal is to get the highest amount of fish per hour, then use the lowest rank rod you can. If you can use a rank 10 rod fishing at level 35 then sure go for that, but then you'll get less prof/hour and you're 1 misclick away from failing

If you use a rod 10/15 ranks higher you'll get so much less fish that your cooking prof will fall behind even more than usual and that makes no sense, idk why anyone would want that

Unless you have another fisher sending you free fish to cook it makes no sense to use rods that are more than 5 ranks higher than your fishing rank

So tl/dr in your case you can use either t1 or t2, at these low ranks it doesn't really matter
