Just curious to be honest... when i left jsp hc gear was worth 4x more and was thriving.. now its still semi active but the market seems ...well... exclusive

Is there desire to see HC thrive again? Or was it a novelty

or post if not covered... genuinely curious

There is pretty much no gear accesable and on SC you can make alot more Fg out of skillables etc.

So it's one of those to me

I think it’s not really the right kind of game where a hardcore mode provides enough of a thrill that it sounds enticing to play. Because of that, there isn’t a huge player base, and when you don’t have a huge player base you get problems of not enough economy (gear available or fg value for drops) not to mention that it becomes impossible to find others to play with.

Realistically, it’s not scary to play HC because you think a super strong monster might destroy you… it’s scary to play HC because you don’t know how many years it will be working on a character only to accidentally enter a catacombs at lvl 1 when there’s a monster inside, or internet goes out and you don’t d/c fast enough to avoid dying.

It makes sense that many people would play it at the start because it was, in a sense, a new ladder where years of piled up gear didn’t exist… but that isn’t really the case anymore, so there’s some risk, sure, but not much reward to be had.

went with not enough gear available.

I mean maybe there is but also plenty of people hanging on to gear when they take an extended break from LS.

Its more profitable to play sc. Little mq gear is available. Def seems like player base shrinking for 10 years.
No reason to start on hc, gps mean nothing since no brag threads/scandal sheet

There are 3 correct options to pick from in the poll.

[x] Not enough gear available
[x] Not enough groups
[x] I think gear is being hoarded and its too hard to get in

I picked the last one, but I could've gone with the first one or the third one (groups).

Ultimately I think it's the lack of groups that killed hc. But for me I am not switching over to sc because it's too difficult to sell anything then buy everything on sc for one, but also I'd have to start over with proficiencies and I don't wanna give up on my hc skiller.

Of course all that was before paul sneaked in that 8 character limit per core. Now that that is there, it's even harder for me to switch over heh. But idc, I'm sticking to hc all the way.

Btw it is no secret that sc gear sell for way more than hc. Skilling items and fishes sell for more, too... that's another reason many people play sc.

Too small of a player base to split between 2 modes, if hc had much higher drop rates id play it.

I think it's mostly that there's more fg in softcore, this leads to 95% of new players coming to softcore. With more new players comes an actual usable trade market outside of skilling, also with the skilling market where it is right now, there's usually a large number of low EE daggers which can be decent ways to start given its rogue and samurai usable. (swords are preferable for new players but more people buy them and quit than the amount which are actually found)

So it's all the same thing really, the bigger economy just gives more interest and leads to more activity and more drops.

Main draw for HC now is there's a pretty reasonable chance you can reset HC given it's liable to take multiple years. Struggling to come up with a better reason tbh.
SC is liable to reset twice a year if not 3 times and getting in those 200-300 climbs to really have a chance of reset isn't doable in that time frame for many players.

There is nothing different in each core other than the player base. Death and loss of items/profs are minor factors.

If you reverse the Active players on SC to HC and vice versa, you would get the same results in availability in gear and profit of FG.

HC doesn't have enough active players to increase runs to find more gear or trades for fg in comparison to SC... just simple mathematics.

Years ago there was a competition to get more players into Hardcore by giving out FG / Gear (HC) towards those that reached 20 Master Quests first, second and third as well as consolation prices to others. You can not do any fun competitions now.

Well that is my 2 cents worth.
