I just forgot i mq'd and dropped a lvl 20 staff into a well on my lvl 8 character, the well monster took me 10 minutes to kill and dropped 11 items, which is twice what i normally get.
Has anyone experimented welling much higher level items and made a spreadsheet? would like to see if its a trend.

did not do a spreadsheet but welling items higher than your character level does drop more items
i typically dont see the sidedrops being that much higher of a level though

Think the side drops tie to the item level dropped in, 20 staff = 25 wild heal.

That is the strategy,,,well above your level.
I get even 2 tiers higher on side drops sometimes

It feels like when your lower/equal to the monster level you get by far more drops.

I usually experience this on EPs. When you kill EPs/monsters on a level 30 Map (55 is level cap) you get why better/more drops on a Charakter in the range than you get with a over level one.

So maybe ideal mf method would be to get extremely good 45 gear, get down enough trap doors to sit at 55 and well 50/55 items when you come across one ^_^
Think im going to make a melee guardian with clubs, plates and heals to test it since that crap is cheaper by a wide margin and would tank well with int to make up magic defence deficit.

I only drop items @ my level into a well and get a lot of side drops occasionally... and I have had 11 items drop before and also had higher tier drops from the item... that is because the monster level is that of the item (increased by Well monster). You should have also realized you would have gained like a minimum of 15% experience gain shown on your Experience bar... I get like 8%-11% increase doing well items at my level from the item I drop in the well:

Level 10 character dropping a level 10 item into the well etc. I hardly ever do a Tier higher than my level outside of being level 1 welling Tier III items for the XP, prof gain... as for drops, I don't mind them.

Sorry I could not tell you anything more... but simply put, the Well monster level is the the same as the Item Tier you drop in, amount of drops are random also, so don't rely on it happening all the time.

EDIT: I believe at certain times, the side drop can get you two(2) tiers higher, but then, this even has ML%

My habit for a long time was to well all level 55 whites at level 40 for specifically this reason.

Your 20 staff is a level 30 mob item. So the well monster spawned was level 30 (ish). When you're welling so far above your level you tend to get not just more side drops, but a LOT more side drops.

Note: Stats are still king suck, but increasing drops increases chances of something not suck, so yeah.

This has been how it has been for over a decade. There's no need to nerf, drops themselves suck, why nerf harder?
