Hey everyone,

Just looking for a bit of advice. I attempted to play this game a LONG time ago....but I was into different games at the time and didn't really enjoy myself. Now that I'm older I picked it back up to try since I don't do any other type of gaming and really enjoyed myself. Leveled a character all the way to a master quest....and failed. Oh well. I still had a good time with it. I've looked through a bunch of tutorials and posts and so on, and sometimes the information can be a bit overwhelming. Other times it seems not enough. I just have a few questions I'm looking to get answers to. A couple I think I know, and a couple are kinda vague ideas in my head....

1. Is there any reason to do the master quest or should I just keep progressing past 71 in hopes of better item drops?
2. Speaking of item drops, the information on this one is OVERWHELMING to a beginner. What to keep....what to throw....what to vault...what to sell....it gets to be a lot. Basically is there like a simple couple of lines for a super early beginner to keep them from making mistakes? Something like....Keep all normals above this tier.....keep all +7's and above....keep all enhanced effect above X number...keep everything with +10 Str...Just a few lines to oversimplify things. I'm not looking to min/max at all at this point, just to enjoy a nice little fun adventure I can play on my phone that doesn't want me to spend $50 every time I open the game.
3. Charms....it's really hard on my phone to swap back and forth between my weapon and my charms....which leads me to say that I just straight up dont use them. I just played a Barbarian and clicked everything until it died. Then I got to thinking...I have two charm slots. Do I get the stat bonuses off those even if I don't use them? Or does only the "weapon/charm" that you are currently attacking with give you stats.
4. Is it better to do normal catacombs, or the special maps?
5. Is it better to search through an entire catacomb to completion, or should I just stand on a well and whistle when I find one?
6. Speaking of whistling, I have had absolutely no luck changing the monster level I'm whistling for on my phone. I type the /whistle 10 or whatever in my chat and nothing seems to change. Do I have the syntax right or am I doing something wrong?

Sorry if I went to long, and I'm sure Ill have many more questions, thanks for the read and any replies!2

I'm just coming back too, but...

1. I think the difficulty of the monsters past 71 makes it not worth it to "magic find". If I recall correctly, the drop rate used to be lowered past level 71 as well, but I could be wrong about that.
2. Enhanced Effect is the main stat you want to look for. Also check out this thread and keep items that fit the criteria to sell: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=60608527&f=273&o=1650
2a. I haven't bought a vault yet (50fg/30 days), so keeping white can clog your inventory over time. I have transferred a bunch of whites to other characters, but if you find a well in the maze you can't log out to get the whites and then transfer them back because the maze will reset and your well will be gone. So on the note I recommend just keeping a few if you can and hope for a well, but otherwise just focus on keeping the items in the link I posted above.
3. Playing on a phone kind of sucks. I just did a full maze that took three hours on my iPad the other night and accidentally shrined a good item that I'd found earlier in my climb. I probably wouldn't have made the mistake if I were on a computer.
4. Good question, I've been wondering the game. I think it depends on what level you are and what level the map is. If you outlevel the map I don't think you're going to get much experience at all, so probably best to stick with regular catacombs for the most part.
5. I think it's best to try to complete it, but you'll find when you get to be a higher level that you're never going to be playing long enough to complete the whole thing if you're just playing solo (which is what I do).
6. Unsure about this as well, because I never whistle. I can see how whistling might be better if you're playing mobile, but you can't find the evil presences if you stand in one spot, and that's where you can find good items.

Hmm, I don't play on phone, can not help there.

1. Do the MQ thingy when you can, you may find upgrades at lower tiers for your character class to climb faster ... note, unlocked classes increase MQ requirement by 2 levels, so Samurai will be 73, Paladin 75 etc.. and basically the higher level monsters get extremely harder after 80ish... so no point mf'ing those levels without gear.

2. Items... hmm, basically you just need to make a "Price Check" thread in the "Trade" section before putting up on MP, also use the MP as a basic guide to the prices of what you are selling ... What to keep... hmm, 20% ee is max per tier level (other than overspawn), +5 Stat (Str / Dex / Int) is max per tier (other than overspawn) SO, use that as an idea of what is useful etc.
... TIII = 55-60% EE is decent to great ... so +15 Stat is also great.
... Lvl 5 (IV) = 70-80% EE, 15-20 Stat
... Lvl 10 (V) = 75-100% EE, 18-25 Stat
... Lvl 15 (VI) = 90-120% EE, 20-30 Stat
Note the variances as the Tier gets higher

EDIT: Still always use a PC post if you are unsure of items, and wait for more than 1 person(s) response.

Been playing almost two weeks myself, exclusively on mobile. I'll reply with what I've found helpful.

1. Is there any reason to do the master quest or should I just keep progressing past 71 in hopes of better item drops?

If you're starting from scratch with almost no fg like me, soloing above lvl 60 or so starts to get painful until you get some gear. Progress is much faster in groups (even just 2 ppl). I would find someone to play with and keep doing MQ. Every couple times you fail on a class you get an extra stat point which will help on next climb.

Yea still learning this; it can get confusing. Few things I've found helpful:

Whites - pick up any whites lvl 30+ and either sell on the marketplace or throw them in Wells in the hope of farming something good. Sell price fluctuates but I've been selling consistently at about this;

Lv 30 - 5-10fg
Lv 35 - 15-20fg
Lv 45 - 30-35fg
Lv 50 - 50fg+
Lv 55 - 100fg+

Magics - useful to pick up all lv 30+ to sell for small amounts, it adds up. I can usually sell lvl 30-40 magics quickly for 3-4 fg each. The higher the lvl or type (rare, angelic, etc) will raise the sell price. Low tier legendaries also sell pretty quick for 1 fg as shrinables.

As for mods to keep, I've been using a rough outline of:
10+ life regen
15+ stats
50+ EE
5+ jubilance

1st charm slot you get all the bonus stats even when not using it, so it's very helpful to have things like +str/dex/int etc. 2nd slot, only EE counts so this is generally for a heal charm. Even as a barb or samurai, a high EE wild charm can be really helpful at high levels and in groups. At lower lvls you really dont need to bother with 2nd slot imo.

4. Is it better to do normal catacombs, or the special maps?

Depends on the map. Valuable stats on them are things like +wells, +evil prescenses, +chests. I generally do thr specials as they drop if they arent valuable enough to sell.

5. Is it better to search through an entire catacomb to completion, or should I just stand on a well and whistle when I find one?

I like to explore even though it's slow on phone. Unfortunately, at high levels the map is so big I almost always get the 1006 disconnect before exploring 3/4 of it. If I find a well, I generally park there and whistle and throw in the whites I find until it poofs.

6. Speaking of whistling, I have had absolutely no luck changing the monster level I'm whistling for on my phone. I type the /whistle 10 or whatever in my chat and nothing seems to change. Do I have the syntax right or am I doing something wrong?

You can only change the level less than or equal to your level, not higher. It works for me if I type the command inside the maze but not outside of it.

Biggest thing on mobile is learning to navigate. The UI is buggy and difficult on a phone. I generally don't shrine much as it's easy to throw away your good items. I have an easier time playing with a vertical view rather than horizontal. The numerous window resizing issues and bugs you run in to can usually be fixed by either swapping through different windows (home button and swapping back to game) or rotating between vertical/horizontal views.

Also, something useful I found out like a day ago on mobile; while attacking you only have to click the monster once and you will keep attacking until it dies or you do another action. You don't have to tap the same monster 87 times
