I typically don't like these types of systems. If you're going to implement a reward for the top 3 like that, you run into a lot of issues.
If you want to make it a reward that directly benefits the winners, then it is extremely likely that the top 3 will remain the top 3, with very little if any competition between the three - since the grand prize is typically a lot better than 2nd, and 2nd better than 3rd.
This sucks because it's already hard enough, like others have mentioned, to get into the top 3 with the lack of a multitude of competition
If you want the rewards to be more game focused, like good events for everybody or something like that, that works too and solves the issue I just talked about, but it also de-incentivizes the top 3 from being the top 3, since everybody is going to get these rewards no matter what.
Extremely hard to balance out and I feel like more people would complain about never being able to be a part of the top 3, rather than those who achieving it celebrating.
Just my 2 cents
Well said, this was similar to my thoughts as well.
I would much rather see GP's have some sort of "use" so it benefits everyone.
Could be broken down into individual rewards for a player achieving XXX amount of GP's total/week/month
And/or
Guilds achieving XXX amount of GP's total/week/month
