Mage is hard to play with no items, you'll keep running out of mana.

There's no trick to leveling faster, if your gear isn't good enough, it's always gonna be insanely slow.

And you won't have any items unless you buy something from the marketplace or make a topic in the ladder slasher section.

If you're dying you should either use a heal charm to heal yourself or go back in town by pressing the door on the top right and wait for your life/mana to regen.

You can also use the "Shrine" in town to instantly recover life/mana by dropping a magical+ item in it ( the item is destroyed ).

Hey!

As I can see, you started your ls career as a mage.

While mage can be very strong, with the right gear, it might not be the best choice to start with.

It should be easier to start with a melee class like fighter or barb.

You should watch for weapons with enhanced effect, same for armors.

Your main charm should have some strength if you use swords/clubs, which are cheaper than dextery based items.

Put some points into vitality and use the shrine for faster regeneration. When you throw magical ++ items into the shrine, you'll recover life/mana.

you will want charms with +strength. This is the most efficient way of getting more damage on a barb (without getting confusing)

+enhanced effect on charms increases the damage of the charm, which isnt very helpful when your barb has 0 mana to cast and should not cast.

getting armor with enhanced effect on it will increase the defense of the armor which is generally much more helpful than using +strength when soloing

Yes Mage to start is not the norm, but it is do-able, I believe someone tried in Bufcore (check that thread out because they play hardcore and ONLY use self found gear... you may get pointers on what you find you can use)

Some tips from playing with nothing:
1. Make mules to transfer through Marketplace for free to hold your good items for later when you upgrade gear (you don't lose gear when reset)
2. White items (no mods) that are the same level or even 1 level less than character can do more damage / heal.
3. pump vita at start to at least 90 base and rest in your weapons HIGHEST ratio stat... example: Sword / Club / Axe are Strength (Axe is dual Dex/str)
4. Shrine junk mod items when low on life, go to town and use the M'Urakar shrine, be careful not to shrine you good items you want to keep.
5. You can Regen in town, so low life, go to town and sit there to regen.
6. You can fish while regen if you want... try to find a splintered rod... also, you can cook fish to increase mana or life on fish... also do this if fishing.
7. Read the portals for more information... Ladders Slasher page and links on the left.
8. Abilities... personally I would use a Fighter because Powerstrike is his ability and faster to build up before choosing Retribution as a second skill, IF you are going Melee / Heal (only thing I build) then Salvation replaces Retribution... or you can choose all 3.

Take a read of some of the people doing bufcore here: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=81077347&f=272

Oh, and a guide that is easy to read and use even now: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=57524636&f=74

Good luck and have fun.

EDIT: some other minor tips:

1. Press ESC and "Disable Item Compare" to turn it off (this way when you look at an item, you do not get 2 images)
2. Press ESC untick "Use CTRL+Click on Door to return to Town. (so you can just spam click to exit)
3. Press ESC ... now this is personal... Untick "Disable Auto Hold Attack" to make it auto attack by clicking on monster once... I prefer this, you can press E or R (if using heal charm) in between to heal and then press Q to attack again without clicking, you just have to click each monster ONCE with auto click on... you will double or triple click the door to exit.

upto you

keep your mage though...do not reroll him (unless you already did). He can be VERY useful as a mule. (when you find items you want to keep but not on the character you are playing on you can transfer it to other characters.(you can have up to 16 characters).
